Destination Intelligence

The Four Winter Corridors.

Corridor 01 — Indian Ocean

Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius

December through February is the driest window. Maldives North Malé and Baa Atoll peak between January and March. Seychelles Inner Islands are driest November through January. Mauritius best booked for May or October — December is cyclone fringe.

Corridor 02 — East Africa

Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda

January and February are the driest months in the Serengeti. Calving season runs December through March — the best wildlife event in the calendar. Rwanda gorilla permits are available year-round but January–February offers smaller groups and lower lodge rates.

Corridor 03 — Southeast Asia

Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, Sri Lanka

Thailand's Andaman coast (Phuket, Koh Samui west) is dry November through April. Vietnam's central coast is best avoided December–January (typhoon tail). Bali dry season ends October; December is peak rain. Sri Lanka south coast: November–April, east coast reverses.

Corridor 04 — Red Sea

Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE

NEOM's The Sindalah Island and Amaala resort complex open their first phases in late 2026. Jordan (Wadi Rum, Dead Sea) runs November through March with near-zero rain. Dubai's quality peak is December–February before the spring build-up begins.

Booking Intelligence

Avoiding the Crowd Premium.

The most expensive weeks of the year — Christmas 23rd to New Year 3rd — are rarely the best weeks for luxury travel. Most lodges operate at occupancy above 90%, staff-to-guest ratios fall, and rates often include mandatory minimums or full-board-only packages that inflate cost without improving experience.

The desk recommends targeting the shoulder of the peak: January 6th through February 15th delivers near-identical weather, dramatically lower rates, and meaningfully better service across every tier. Book direct or via AgodaCommission-linked for verified availability.

Recommended

Serengeti calving season (Nomad Tanzania camps). Aman AVIS, Jordan for New Year. Sri Lanka east coast for a pre-February escape.

Caution

Maldives Christmas week — rates at 3× baseline with mandatory full-board at most category-one properties. Book February instead.

Avoid

Bali December–January (peak wet season). Vietnam central coast December–January (typhoon risk). Mauritius December–March (cyclone window).
